The Doolittle Institute needs nine volunteer judges for the FIRST® Tech Challenge League Tournament. Judging takes place through the month of April, and no prior knowledge or experience in robotics is necessary to volunteer.
The FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC) League Tournament determines which team is the best among 16 Northwest Florida Counties. Winners will advance to the State Championship. Our 7th through 12th grade robotics students, collectively deemed the AeroCoast League, persevered through 2020 and competed remotely all season, however many of our judges stepped back during COVID to attend to other obligations.
Volunteers can choose to judge in any of three categories: Think; Machine, Creativity, and Innovation; and Team Attributes. After completing online training, judges will meet as a local body to ask and answer any questions. Judges will interview teams and review teams’ submitted materials. After initial deliberations, judges interview the teams one final time before deciding on awards.
- April 26th (3-4pm) – Judge Meeting/Training Session
- April 27th & 28th (3-5pm) – Formal Interviews
- April 29th & 30th (3-5pm) – Initial Deliberations
- May 3rd (3-5pm) – Follow-up Interviews and Final Deliberations
Those willing to volunteer should fill out this form to begin the process of becoming a 2020-2021 Ultimate Goal FTC Judge. Any questions regarding this volunteer opportunity should contact FIRST@doolittleinstitute.org
